Hello my friends. It’s good to be back home, despite having a wonderful time away last week with my friends in the Lake District. The weather on the first day was incredibly cold – but oh, so sunny and beautiful. We went out for a drive, a walk, saw Windermere lake in all its glory, had a meal… and generally had a load of fun. The second day we couldn’t see a hand in front of our noses – the cloud base had come down. So, a trip to the local garden centre… But, the request was for pictures… so…

What a morning view from my bedroom!
Looking down on Lake Windermere

So, home again and, as promised, a photo or two of the lovely doll I have been “dressing”! Can you believe it is virtually impossible to buy a knitting pattern for a traditional matinee coat?!

A dress and a little pillow. Isn’t she just gorgeous? The owner hasn’t seen it yet, but it will go to church with me on Sunday ready to give to her. I hope she likes it all!

And finally, my desk today. I have been doing cross stitch for around 45 years – so I am sure you can imagine that I have built up quite a stock of threads. You see, I don’t normally stitch kits – but buy the pattern and then the appropriate skeins of thread – so with each new pattern I do, the number of different threads gradually increases. I decided it was time to have a real sort out and tidy up!! I have at least three pictures to stitch this year, so thought a clean start would be good. So my desk? Aaaarrgh!!!! Chaos! Nothing more need be added…

And that’s me done for the day. Apart from endeavouring to neaten everything up I have been working hard on a new website for the charity our church supports – never too old to learn new tricks, apparently!

Take care, my friends. God bless you.

Margaret

I like how you store your embroidery threads.
Is that a particular storage brand? I used the Anchor one and it’s a mess

  6. Good morning!
So pleased you had a good visit to the Lake District, a place I always wanted to visit . . .
Love the dolly, brought back some very happy memories as, being the mother of three girls, it surely would. As to the matinee coat, try Pinterest or Mariannaslazydaisydays Blogspot. She does a lot of preemie patterns and sometimes the odd doll measurements are popped in.
Do tell about how the dolly is received . . .
Take care and God bless you and keep you safe

  8. What beautiful scenery in you photos Margaret, I’m so glad you had such a lovely time. The baby doll is gorgeous and I love the little dress you made, so pretty and perfect for her. I am wondering if you might find a vintage matinee coat pattern on Ebay or Etsy. Nice to see your organising going well, it will be so worth it to start your next cross stitch project with your threads all looking beautiful!
    Have a great week,

  11. Any ideas on using up cross stitch thread? I have one cross stitch that needs finishing, but find it too difficult these days. Lovely pink dress. Glad you had a good time away. Happy WOYWW Angela #2

  12. Super dressed doll, bet it will be loved. Amazing how tidy your threads are, mine are somewhere in a big bag! I’ve mainly done kits over the years so have lots of left overs. Gosh now my right hand is sorted I could get back to embroidery – now there’s a thought. Thanks for the visit and the thought BJ#15

  17. Those boxes of threads are real treasures for the eye aren’t they,, jewel bright and just looking beautiful even before they’ve been employed. Clever things! Glad the Lakes made a lovely break for you, beautiful pics, but my word, I can feel the cold that high up over Windermere! Dolly looks just gorgeous , her owner will be delighted I know. If you’re ever on the hunt for patterns for matinee jackets again, let me know, I could photocopy several that grandma used when Jenny was born and actually still does for various fami and friends!

  18. What a beautiful picture of Windermere! That doll is lovely too – she would be just perfect for my great niece who is half Nigerian.
    Happy WOYWW!

  19. Wow I am impressed with you broadening your IT skills, mine ae deteriorating by the day. Sadly can’t see to do crosstitch anymore but I do recall it’s a challenge keeping all those threads in order – I have embellies in those plastic boxes these days! The doll is beautiful, I’m sure the recipient will be over the moon. Windermere looks gorgeous. So glad you had a good break. Happy WOYWW, stay safe, stay well, love n hugs Cindy xx #22
